StockMarketWire.com - Shares of Cable & Wireless Worldwide (CWW) soared over 27% after Vodafone Group said it was in the early stages of evaluating the merits of a potential bid for the U.K. telecoms services provider.

During the weekend there had been press speculation that a deal could take place with rumours that Vodafone might be prepared to pay £700m. for CWW.

Vodafone, whose shares rose 0.8%, declined to specify a figure, although if it did decide to offer it would probably be in cash.
