StockMarketWire.com - Water treatment and filtration solutions specialist Amiad has won two contracts for projects in Australia worth nearly US$10m.

The contracts, valued at approximately US$8m and US$1.6m respectively, were awarded through the company's wholly-owned subsidiary, Amiad Australia Pty Ltd.

The projects are due to be delivered later this year.

The larger of the projects involves the supply and commissioning of the company's automatic self-cleaning screen filter technology for seawater reverse osmosis membrane protection at the Southern SeaWater Desalination Plant.

Based in Binningup, south of Perth, the plant provides 50 billion litres of fresh drinking water per year to people in Perth and the South West, and is currently being expanded to double its capacity.

When the expansion is completed in late 2012, at least half of the water needed for the Perth metropolitan area will be supplied from climate independent desalination, which will ensure water security for drinking and agriculture in the region.

The other contract is for the supply and commissioning of the company's Arkal automatic self-cleaning disc technology (Spin Klin Galaxy) for Origin Energy's Australia Pacific LNG (APL) project.

The project - a joint venture between Origin, ConocoPhillips and Sinopec - involves the processing of coal seam gas to liquefied natural gas at several sites in southern Queensland.

APL has Australia's largest reserves, and is the leading producer, of CSG, which is natural gas stored within coal seams that contributes to the provision of cleaner energy in Australia and international markets.

Amiad's solution will perform pre-filtration to ensure membrane protection during the process.
