- The UK Government has agreed to increase its contribution to the International Monetary Fund (IMF) by £9bn. a year but have said that taxpayers will not be affected.

The G20 group of wealthy and developed nations have agreed to increase the IMF's lending capacity, following the debt crises in Greece, Ireland and Portugal.

The UK currently pays £10.54bn. annually to the IMF but this will now almost double.
