In the US last night, the Dow fell 190 points to 15,739, the Nasdaq lost 47 points at 4,051 and the S&P500 shed 19 points at 1,774.

In Asia today, the Nikkei was recently down 465 points at 14,918 and the Hang Seng ended the shortened pre-holiday session off 106 points at 22,035.

WTI crude oil traded at $97.36 a barrel and Brent Crude at $107.85.

Gold settled at $1,262 an ounce.


In a busy corporate diary today, interim results are due from Angle, British Sky Broadcasting Group, CPL Resources, Diageo, Hillshire Brands Company, Johnson Matthey and Renishaw.

Final results are scheduled from Kcell Joint Stock Co, Royal Dutch Shell, Safestore Holdings and Mitchells & Butlers.
