In the US last night, the Dow gained 221 points to 17,195, the Nasdaq added 17 points at 4,566 and the S&P 500 traded up 13 points to 1,995.

In Asia today, the Nikkei was recently up 809 points at 16,464 and the Hang Seng had gained around 288 points at 23,994.

WTI crude oil traded at $80.8 a barrel and Brent at $85.9.

Gold settled at $1,194.5 an ounce.

LONDON MARKETS

In the corporate diary today, interim results are due from International Consolidated Airlines Group, Royal Bank of Scotland Group and 1Spatial and trading statements are expected from Berendsen, Countrywide, Direct Line Insurance Group, Regus and Weir Group.
