In the US last night, the Dow fell 16 points to 18,038, while the Nasdaq was left unchanged at 4,807 points and the S&P 500 edged 2 points higher to 2,091.

In Asia today, the Nikkei was recently off 190 points at 17,523 and the Hang Seng had lost 216 points at 23,558.

WTI crude oil fell to $53.34 a barrel and Brent to $57.65.

Meanwhile, gold settled at $1,188.2 an ounce.


In the corporate diary today, a trading statement is expected from multi-channel fashion retailer Next, while Eastpharma, African Consolidated Resources and Lyxor Focus Fund are due to host their AGMs.
