- Recruitment consultancy Robert Walters said earnings rose in the first quarter following a particularly strong boost in overseas fee income.

Gross profit increased by 13% to £88.5m, or by 17% in constant currency terms.

Income in Asia grew by 11%, while income in the UK rose by 6%. Income in the rest of Europe jumped 32%.

'The group delivered a strong performance in the first quarter with net fee income increasing 17% year-on-year and growing across all regions,' chief executive Robert Walters said.

'Current trading is in line with market expectations.'
