- Symphony Environmental Technologies said it was explaining its biodegradable plastics technology to UK authorities in the wake of the government's decision to ban single-use plastic items such a straws.

Chief executive Michael Laurier had mentioned the company's products at a Commonwealth Heads of Government Conference, the company said.

'It was well received, and one Commonwealth country (Pakistan) had already made it compulsory for a wide range of plastic items,' the company added.

'The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is the latest country to make the technology mandatory, and Symphony hopes that the UK will soon join them.'

The announcement by Symphony was relaying details of an interview of deputy chairman Michael Stephen on Sky News.
