StockMarketWire.com - Tlou Energy said it had drilled the first of a series of production wells at its Lesedi coal bed methane project in Botswana.

The Lesedi 3P well was drilled to a total depth of 575m and the rig had now started drilling the second well, Lesedi 4P.

Tlou said it would drill the Lesedi production wells as dual lateral pods, with each comprising a single vertical production well intersected by two lateral wells.

Drilling would be followed by production testing, with the potential to convert established gas resources to reserves and deliver gas to a proposed central processing facility and power station.

The vertical wells were were being drilled first. Thereafter, the lateral sections of the wells would be drilled using specialist directional drilling equipment.

Production start-up was targeted to commence in early 2019.
