- Power utility National Grid said it had reached a 'satisfactory agreement' in contract negotiations with two Massachusetts gas unions over employment terms and conditions.

The agreement was for a five-and-a-half-year contract for 1,250 employees in the company's Massachusetts gas business.

National Grid said it implemented a contingency plan during the negotiations to ensure that customers continued to receive a safe and reliable service.

'The company looks forward to welcoming back employees on 21 January 2019,' it added.
