The FTSE Small Cap ex Investment Companies Total Return Index fell 13.9% over the same period.

In line with previous years, the company did not declare an interim dividend.

'We sense more than ever that investors are also now concentrating on fundamental valuations, which in these volatile and uncertain times should offer the best protection and prospects,' chairman Richard Hills said.

'We therefore expect our portfolio to benefit from a positive re-rating.'
