- The US non-farm unemployment rate fell unexpectedly in April to 3.6% amid the addition of 263k positions, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

The market had expected the jobless rate to remain steady at 3.8% amid the creation of 181K positions.

Average hourly earnings rose by 6 cents, or 0.2%, to $27.77, just shy of expectations of a 0.3% rise.
