- The maker of food products including Mr Kipling cakes and Oxo stock cubes, Premier Foods, said it had appointed the head of its UK business, Alex Whitehouse, as its new chief executive.

The company also announced it had appointed former Reckitt Benckiser chief financial officer Colin Day as its new chairman.

Chief financial officer, Alastair Murray, who had been acting as interim CEO for seven months, had stood down.

Previous CEO Gavin Darby left at the end of January, while previous chairman Keith Hamill departed last month.

Premier Foods is under press from investors to shrink its debt pile and this year announced it was undertaking a strategic review that could involve asset sales.
