- Resolute Mining said a crack in a piece of processing equipment had materially impacted production at its Syama gold mine in Mali.

The crack was detected in the main external shell of a roaster -- a key component of the mine's sulphide processing circuit.

The company had already carried out maintenance and repair on the sulphide crusher during September, at which point the roaster was successfully brought back into service.

It was expected to operate normally during the December quarter, but the crack was observed upon reheating.

The crack was unrelated to the maintenance and repair work in September, Resolute Mining said.

'The company is currently cooling down the roaster to assess the full extent of the issue and identify the remedial action required,' it added.

'At this stage, the company envisages the repair to the crack may have a material impact on production from the Syama sulphide circuit for the December quarter.'

'Once investigations are complete and a repair plan has been established, a further update on the timing of such activities as well as the impact of this roaster shutdown for 2019 will be provided.
