- Resolute Mining said the government of Australia's Queensland state had approved an environment authority permit for its Ravenswood gold mine.

The new permit represented an important amendment to the company's existing environmental authority and would support an ongoing Ravenswood expansion project, Resolute Mining said.

It would allow Resolute to expand the existing Nolans tailing storage facility and to ultimately proceed with in-pit tailings storage.

'Approval and issue of the new permit provides Resolute with the ability to safely store tailings for the entire mine life and expanded production profile anticipated to be generated by successful Ravenswood expansion mining activities,' the company said.

The first stage of the expansion had commenced with the recommissioning of a third grinding mill.

Recommissioning of the third mill would enable a return to a processing rate of 5m tonnes per annum and was expected to be fully operational by the end of the current quarter.
