StockMarketWire.com - Insurance group Phoenix said chief executive Clive Bannister would retire in March, following publication of its annual results, after nine years at the helm

He would be succeeded by Andy Briggs, who would join the company as CEO-designate on 1 January.

Briggs was most recently Aviva's head of UK insurance.

He was an 'ideal candidate' with with a deep insurance knowledge and strong integration and M&A skills, Bannister said.

'I am proud of all that we have achieved and I'm confident that I leave the group in good shape for my successor,' he added.
