- Fishing equipment retailer Angling Direct said it had achieved record performance during the Black Friday week and announced a new store opening in Barnsley.

In the Black Friday week, which ran from 25 November to 2 December, profit rose 49.5% on-year and total sales climbed 11.3% to £1.86m on-year, with transaction volumes up 28.9% to 18,204.

The profit growth was attributed to a selective approach towards discounting items, with a 10% maximum discount being applied across core product ranges, the company said.

Angling Direct also announced that it had opened a new store in Barnsley, South Yorkshire, on 7 December, taking its UK store portfolio to 33.

'The company continues to trade in line with market expectations and management is confident that it will continue to deliver growth through the second half of the year,' Angling Direct said.
