StockMarketWire.com - Struggling infant goods retailer Mothercare said it had signed up pharmacy chain Boots as the exclusive franchisee of its brand for the UK.

Boots would stock Mothercare-branded clothing and home and travel products, including pushchairs and car seats. It would also host a number of Mothercare 'shop in shops' over time.

A limited range of Mothercare products would be available to buy online from mid-2020, though a wider product range wouldn't be available in Boots stores until the late summer.

Mothercare recently placed its UK business into administration and was now focusing on its overseas stores.

'This new partnership will provide the strong foundations for Mothercare's continuing presence in the UK,' Mothercare said.

'There is good synergy between the UK customer proposition and the customer bases of Boots and Mothercare and this new partnership is expected to create significant opportunities for both companies.'

Boots is Britain's biggest pharmacy retailer and part of Walgreens Boots Alliance.
